Elsa Martinelli, born Elisa Tia on 3 August 1932 (or possibly 30 January 1935) in Grosseto, Italy, was a fashion model turned actress. Discovered by Roberto Capucci in Rome, she began modeling and acting in films like 'Le Rouge et le noir' (1954). Her breakthrough role came in 'Donatella' (1956), earning her the Silver Bear for Best Actress at the Berlin International Film Festival. Martinelli appeared in numerous films across Europe and the USA until the late 1960s, including notable roles in 'Hatari!' (1962) with John Wayne and 'Candy' (1968) alongside Marlon Brando and Richard Burton. Post-1968, she worked primarily in European films and television. Martinelli was married twice: first to Count Franco Mancinelli Scotti di San Vito with whom she had a daughter, Cristiana; later to Willy Rizzo.
