Karen Black (1939-2013) was an American actress, screenwriter, singer, and songwriter known for her prominent roles in various studio and independent films during the 1970s. Born Karen Blanche Ziegler near Chicago, she studied theater at Northwestern University before moving to New York City and eventually Los Angeles. Black gained significant recognition for her roles in 'Easy Rider', 'Five Easy Pieces', and 'Airport 1975'. She won two Golden Globe Awards and was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Notable films include 'Nashville', 'The Day of the Locust', 'Family Plot', and 'House of 1000 Corpses'. Black's career spanned over five decades, with nearly 200 credits to her name.
