Essie Davis, born and raised in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia, is an acclaimed actress with a diverse film and theater career. Daughter of local artist George Davis, she began her acting journey at the Old Nick Company, University of Tasmania. Graduating from NIDA, Sydney, her breakthrough came with 'Dad and Dave: On Our Selection' (1995). She gained international recognition in 'The Matrix Reloaded' and 'Revolutions'. Notable stage roles include winning a Laurence Olivier Award for 'A Streetcar Named Desire' (2003) and earning a Tony nomination for 'Jumpers' (2004). In 2017, she starred in the series 'Philip K. Dick's Electric Dreams'. She also returned to Tasmania to launch 'The Tasmanian Theatre Company', supporting local theater and encouraging youth involvement.
