Tonya Harding was born Tonya Maxene Price on November 12, 1970, in Portland, Oregon. She began ice skating at age three and eventually became a figure skating prodigy, dropping out of high school to pursue her career. Harding won numerous competitions, including two U.S. championships (1991, 1994), and was the first American woman to land a triple Axel in international competition (1991). However, she is best known for her involvement in the 1994 attack on fellow skater Nancy Kerrigan, which led to her being banned from competitive skating by the USFSA. Harding subsequently had a career in professional boxing and has been the subject of several books, films, and documentaries.
