Madonna Louise Ciccone, born August 16, 1958 in Bay City, Michigan, is an American recording artist, actress, and entrepreneur. After moving to New York City in 1977 to pursue modern dance, she released her debut album in 1983, followed by a series of albums that pushed boundaries in mainstream popular music and music videos. Madonna has had numerous number one hits including 'Like a Virgin', 'Papa Don't Preach', 'Vogue', 'Music', and 'Hung Up'. She won a Golden Globe for her role in Evita (1996), but opinions on her film roles vary. Besides music, she's involved in fashion design, children's book authoring, film directing, producing, and has been recognized as a successful businesswoman with a $120 million contract signed with Live Nation in 2007.
