Laura Betti (born Laura Trombetti, 1 May 1927 – 31 July 2004) was an Italian actress known for her distinctive roles in films by Federico Fellini, Pier Paolo Pasolini, and Bernardo Bertolucci. Born near Bologna, she started as a jazz singer before acting. She debuted in 'La Dolce Vita' (1960), and worked extensively with Pasolini ('Theorem', 'The Canterbury Tales'), winning the Volpi Cup for Best Actress for 'Teorema'. Betti also played Regina in Bertolucci's 'Novecento'. Her documentary 'Pier Paolo Pasolini e la ragione di un sogno' was released in 2001. She was known for portraying eccentric characters and had a significant impact on Italian political and literary figures.
