Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, known professionally as Katy Perry, was born on October 25, 1984. She started her music career at age 16 with a commercially unsuccessful gospel album 'Katy Hudson'. Moving to Los Angeles at 17, she adopted the stage name 'Katy Perry' and attempted to break into secular music. After several record label changes and unreleased albums, Perry signed with Capitol Records in 2007. She gained fame with her second album 'One of the Boys' (2008), which included hit singles 'I Kissed a Girl' and 'Hot n Cold'. Her following albums 'Teenage Dream' (2010) and 'Prism' (2013) were equally successful, with multiple number-one singles. Perry is one of the best-selling artists of all time, with over 143 million records sold worldwide. She has won numerous awards and accolades, including four Guinness World Records, and has been a judge on American Idol since 2018.
