Born and raised in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Kathryn Atwood moved to New York at age 17 to pursue modeling with Wilhelmina Agency. She later attended Cornell University, graduating with honors and earning a degree in English. Post-graduation, she furthered her education by studying creative writing under Frank Conroy at the Iowa Writers Workshop.
