Gong Li, born in China and raised in Singapore, is a renowned actress known for her collaborations with director Zhang Yimou, which helped bring Chinese cinema to international prominence. She has won numerous awards, including the Golden Rooster, Hundred Flowers Awards, Berlinale Camera, Cannes Festival Trophy, National Board of Review, New York Film Critics Circle Award, and Volpi Cup. In 1996, she married Singaporean businessman Ooi Hoe Soeng and became a Singaporean citizen in 2008.
