Andra Day (born Cassandra Monique Batie on December 30, 1984) is an American R&B and soul singer-songwriter and actress. She gained recognition with her debut album 'Cheers to the Fall' in 2015, earning Grammy nominations for Best R&B Album and Best R&B Performance for its single 'Rise Up'. Day's acting debut came in 2021 when she portrayed Billie Holiday in Lee Daniels' film 'The United States vs. Billie Holiday'. For this role, she won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress - Drama and received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress. The film's soundtrack earned Day a Grammy Award for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.
