Amy Lynn Hartzler, known professionally as Amy Lee, was born on December 13, 1981, to John Lee and Sara Cargill. She moved frequently during her childhood, living in California, Florida, Illinois, and eventually Arkansas. Classically trained in piano for nine years, she met guitarist Ben Moody at a summer camp in 1994, where he was impressed by her musical talents. They formed the band Evanescence, going through several name changes before settling on Evanescence. After various independent releases, they signed with Wind-Up Records and released their debut album 'Fallen' in 2003, which sold seven million copies worldwide. This led to international success for the band. Two more albums followed: 'The Open Door' in 2006 and 'Evanescence' in 2011.
