Pamfir, an ex-smuggler who had reformed and worked abroad for several years, returns to his village on the Ukrainian border with the intention of earning an honest living and setting a good example for his teenage son Nazar. However, Nazar sets fire to the local church in an attempt to keep Pamfir at home, leading to significant damage.
