Mélanie Leray, born and raised in France, trained at the National Theater of Brittany under Bernard Bayen and Hans Peter Cloos from 1991 to 1994. She was an actress at Théâtre des Lucioles until 1997, working with directors like Christophe Lemaître, Jean Deloche, Gilles Dao, and François Rancillac. In cinema, she debuted in 'Western' (1997), directed by Manuel Poirier, which won the Jury Prize at Cannes. She has worked with renowned French filmmakers such as Xavier Beauvois, Marion Vernoux, and Benoît Jacquot. Leray started directing theater in the early 2000s, working with the Rennes Penitentiary Center. In 2012, she founded La Compagnie 2052, creating plays like 'Erma et moi' by Mario Batista and 'La Chaise' by Florian Parra. She has directed adaptations of British texts, including Lucy Caldwell's 'Leaves' at the Théâtre National de Bretagne in 2009.
