Full Biography

Michelle Ingrid Williams (born September 9, 1980) is an American actress known for her roles in independent films and Broadway shows. Raised by politician Larry R. Williams, she began acting at age 15 after gaining emancipation from her parents. She gained prominence as a teenager with her role in Dawson's Creek (1998–2003). Williams has since received critical acclaim for playing troubled characters in films like Brokeback Mountain (2005), Wendy and Lucy (2008), Blue Valentine (2010), and Manchester by the Sea (2016). She won Golden Globes for portraying Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn (2011) and Gwen Verdon in Fosse/Verdon (2019), and an Emmy for the latter. Her highest-grossing films include Shutter Island (2010), Oz the Great and Powerful (2013), The Greatest Showman (2017), Venom (2018) and its sequel (2021). On Broadway, she starred in Cabaret (2014) and Blackbird (2016), receiving a Tony nomination for the latter. Williams is an advocate for equal pay and maintains privacy about her personal life. She has one child with actor Heath Ledger, was briefly married to musician Phil Elverum, and currently has two children with director Thomas Kail.
