Story

La petite Jérusalem follows Laura, an Orthodox Jewish teenager living with her family in the suburbs of Paris. Her mother is a Tunisian widow and her sister Mathilde is struggling in her marriage due to repressed desires that stem from misunderstandings about her religious principles. Laura, however, is more open-minded and works as a night cleaner at a school while studying philosophy. She develops a strong passion for her Muslim Algerian colleague, despite the cultural differences. Meanwhile, Mathilde discovers her husband had an affair and seeks guidance from a religious advisor to interpret love and marital duties.

Summary

La petite Jérusalem (2005) is a French drama film directed by Karin Albou. Set within the Orthodox Jewish community in Paris suburbs, the film explores themes of religious identity, desire, and personal growth through the eyes of Laura, the protagonist. While the plot details from various sources differ somewhat in emphasis, they all center around Laura's journey as she navigates her faith, family dynamics, and romantic feelings for someone outside her cultural circle.
