Sara Martins, born August 19, 1977 in Faro, Portugal of Cape Verdean descent, moved to France at age three. She studied ballet, joining the Lyon Opera but was unable to advance due to lack of diversity. Martins then pursued acting, studying at Les Enfants Terribles and later the French National Academy of Dramatic Arts. She learned English through U2 lyrics. Known for her roles in French television and film, she notably played Detective Sergeant Camille Bordey in 'Death in Paradise', filmed in Guadeloupe.
