Story

In late 1960s Spain, successful writer Antonio Prieto moves to the remote Andalusian town of Quintanar for inspiration but finds himself isolated and unsettled. He discovers that Esteban, a deformed man with extreme brutality, lives imprisoned in an isolated cabin by the bartender and his wife. Meanwhile, Antonio develops feelings for Berta, the real estate agent who introduced him to Quintanar, despite her apparent rejection from villagers. Berta's cousin Justa and her daughters Sole and Rosita accuse Antonio of being Vimero, a mythical shapeshifter creature from local legend who cursed the town with deformities. After Sole's brutal death, Inspector Mauri arrives to investigate. Convinced Esteban is guilty, Antonio reports him but learns he has escaped. The truth about Sole's murder is revealed in a horrific manner when Antonio and Berta are together.
