Full Biography

"Hailing from Kreminna in Luhansk Oblast, Ukraine, Maryna honed her acting skills at the Kviv National I.K. Karpenko-Katy Theatre, Cinema, and Television University before making her television debut in an episode of Sniffer in 2017. She followed this with several TV appearances and a minor role in Rising Hawk (2019). However, it was her lead performance in Zabuti (The Forgotten), also released in 2019, that earned her critical acclaim, specifically the Best Actress award from the Ukrainian Film Academy. While she did showcase her figure in Zabuti, Maryna went further in the 2022 war film Sniper: The White Raven, appearing topless within its first five minutes during an intimate scene. Given such audacious career choices, we eagerly await her next performance."

Story

Zabuti follows Nina, a 30-year-old Ukrainian language teacher trapped in Luhansk after it's occupied by separatists. Forced to undergo retraining courses for teaching Russian, she witnesses Andrii, a 17-year-old orphaned student, being arrested for placing the Ukrainian flag on his school's roof. Knowing the injustice of their world could keep Andrii imprisoned for a long time, Nina risks her life to free him. As they gravitate towards each other, they strive to remind people in the occupied territories that they deserve a future too.

Summary

Set against the backdrop of the ongoing conflict in eastern Ukraine, Zabuti is a drama that explores themes of resistance and resilience amidst occupation. The film follows Nina, a dedicated language teacher, who despite being forced to adapt her teaching methods due to the occupation, refuses to compromise her principles. When she witnesses Andrii, a young student, being arrested for displaying Ukrainian pride, she takes matters into her own hands to secure his release. As they navigate the dangerous realities of life under separatist control, Nina and Andrii form an unlikely bond that serves as a beacon of hope in their war-torn community.
