Xosha Kai Roquemore (/ˈzoʊʃə ˈroʊkmɔːr/ ZOH-shə ROHK-mor) was born on December 11, 1984 in Los Angeles and named after the Xhosa people of South Africa. She began acting at The Amazing Grace Conservatory during ninth grade before moving to New York City post-high school, where she graduated from NYU's Tisch program. Roquemore made her major film debut as Jo Ann in 'Precious', followed by a recurring role on 'Kirstie'. However, this was recast after she became a series regular on 'The Mindy Project' after initially appearing for three episodes. Between August 2015 and March 2017, Roquemore had a relationship with actor LaKeith Stanfield during which they announced her pregnancy; however, the couple eventually broke up.
