Annie Girardot (25 October 1931 – 28 February 2011) was a prominent French actress who began her career in 1955, making her debut in 'Treize à table'. She won the Prix Suzanne Bianchetti in 1956 and later received a César Award for Best Actress in 1977 for her role in 'Docteur Françoise Gailland'. Girardot also won the Volpi Cup at the Venice Film Festival in 1965. In 2002, she was awarded another César for Best Supporting Actress for 'The Piano Teacher', and she collaborated again with Michael Haneke in 'Caché' (2005). Among her notable roles, Girardot played Nadia the prostitute in Luchino Visconti's 'Rocco e i suoi fratelli' (1960), where she acted alongside her husband at the time, Renato Salvatori. They had a daughter named Giulia.
