Barbara Dare (born Stacy Mitnick on February 23, 1963 in Wichita Falls, Texas) was an American pornographic actress who rose to prominence in the mid-1980s. Born into a Jewish family and raised partly in Wayne, New Jersey, she attended Wayne Hills High School and later earned a degree in Buying & Merchandising from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York. Dare's involvement in the adult film industry began due to her uninhibited lifestyle at Plato's Retreat, a legendary New York City swinger's club. She became one of the first porn actresses to sign an exclusive contract with Essex Video and appeared in over 100 explicit hardcore films. Known for her roles in '80s adult movies, Dare won multiple AVN Awards, including Best New Starlet (1987) and Best Actress (1989), and was inducted into both the AVN Hall of Fame and XRCO Hall of Fame. She briefly ventured into mainstream acting with a role in Evil Toons (1992). After retiring from porn in the early 1990s, Dare worked in public relations for Essex Video and toured as a professional stripper. Struggling with past addiction issues, she now works as a substance abuse counselor.
