Story

The series begins with the discovery of a murdered body on the bridge connecting El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico. This event brings together two detectives from opposite sides of the border - Sonya Cross, a detective from the El Paso police department, and Marco Ruiz, a homicide investigator for the state of Chihuahua living in Ciudad Juárez. Despite initial tensions due to cultural differences and language barriers, they must work together to solve this murder and subsequent crimes that seem to be connected across the border.

The investigation reveals that the murder is not an isolated incident but part of a series committed by a serial killer operating on both sides of the border. This killer seems to have intimate knowledge of both policing systems and exploits their differences, causing chaos and confusion in the joint investigation. As they delve deeper into the case, Sonya and Marco uncover layers of corruption, drug cartels, and organized crime that threaten not only their lives but also the stability of the region.

Throughout the series, Sonya and Marco face personal challenges as well. Sonya struggles with her Asperger's syndrome, which affects her social interactions and empathy, while Marco grapples with his duties as a father and husband amidst the danger he faces daily. Their partnership deepens, and they learn from each other as they strive to bring justice to the victims and put an end to the killer's reign of terror.

Summary

The Bridge is a crime drama series that premiered in 2013, based on the Swedish-Danish series Broen (The Bridge). Set primarily on the border between El Paso, Texas, USA, and Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico, the show explores the complex dynamics of policing two different cultures and legal systems. The series focuses on the unlikely partnership between Detective Sonya Cross from the El Paso police department and Detective Marco Ruiz from the Chihuahua State Police, as they investigate a murder committed on the bridge connecting their cities.

The Bridge is notable for its gritty portrayal of life along the US-Mexico border, tackling issues such as drug trafficking, organized crime, corruption, and immigration. Through the lens of a serial killer investigation that spans both sides of the border, the show delves into the socio-political complexities of this region, highlighting the challenges faced by law enforcement officers like Sonya and Marco.

The series is also recognized for its complex characters and their interpersonal dynamics. Detective Sonya Cross is portrayed as having Asperger's syndrome, which adds depth to her character and provides an unique perspective on criminal investigations.
