Kate sees an opportunity to secure both love and wealth and devises a plan involving Milly and Merton. Meanwhile, Merton crashes a party attended by Kate and Milly, attracting Milly's attention. When Kate learns of Milly's impending death, she schemes to have her inheritance transferred to herself through Milly's will, intending to use it to improve her own life and secure Merton's future.
