Katherine Sian Moennig, born December 29, 1977 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, is an American actress known for her role as Shane McCutcheon on 'The L Word' and Jake Pratt on 'Young Americans'. She is of German, Scottish, and Irish ancestry. After moving to New York City at age 18, she studied at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. Moennig has portrayed multiple lesbian roles in films like 'Everybody's Fine' and 'Art School Confidential', and has pursued transgender roles such as Cheryl Avery in 'Law and Order'. She also co-founded a documentary titled 'My Address' focusing on gay youth homelessness in New York.
