Helena Bergström, born February 5, 1964 in Kortedala, Gothenburg, Sweden, is an acclaimed Swedish actress and director. Granddaughter of legendary actor Olof Widgren, she was initially drawn to working with animals but later became fascinated by theater during her year-long exchange student stay in Mississippi, USA. After returning to Sweden, Bergström trained at the Swedish National Academy of Mime and Acting, graduating in 1988. She has performed extensively on stage, including lead roles in 'Miss Julie', 'Twelfth Night', 'Pygmalion', 'A Streetcar Named Desire', and even played Hamlet in 'Hamlet'. Bergström is known for her collaborations with director Colin Nutley, whom she married. She won Best Actress awards at the Swedish Film Awards, Montreal Film Festival, and Istanbul Film Festival for their film 'The Last Dance'. Bergström made her directorial debut with 'Mind the Gap' (Se upp för dårarna) in 2007. They have two children together.
