Synopsis
In a remote South American colony in the late 18th century, Don Diego de Zama, an officer of the Spanish crown, waits patiently for a transfer to a more prestigious location. However, his hopes are repeatedly dashed, leaving him in this godforsaken place where he suffers small humiliations and petty politicking at the hands of his peers and superiors. As time passes, Zama begins to succumb to paranoia and lust, with his desires becoming increasingly consuming.
