Synopsis
After serving 12 years in prison for attempted murder, former high school football star Eddie Palmer returns to his small-town home. He moves in with his grandmother and starts working at a local diner. Meanwhile, Sam, an outcast non-binary child living with their drug-addicted mother and abusive boyfriend in a nearby trailer park, faces bullying at school due to their gender identity. One day, Sam's mother overdoses, leaving him without proper care. Palmer, feeling responsible, takes Sam under his wing despite initial reservations from the boy's estranged grandmother. As they grow closer, Palmer helps Sam navigate his struggles with bullies and homophobia, while also teaching him football. However, their newfound family dynamic is threatened when Palmer's past crimes resurface, putting his relationship with Sam at risk.
