In 'Les 1001 nuits', Sheherazade finds herself pursued by a Middle Eastern king who intends to marry her forcefully. To evade him, she embarks on a journey filled with adventures and encounters with various heroes and kings from the legends of the 1001 nights. Along the way, she is aided by a Genie living in present-day London who uses his TV set as a time portal to provide assistance whenever Sheherazade faces danger. During her escapades, she temporarily teams up with allies and loses her clothes on multiple occasions. Ultimately, Sheherazade realizes that running isn't a viable solution and devises a risky plan to confront the king.
Directed by Philippe de Broca in 1990, 'Les 1001 nuits' is an adventure comedy film that offers a unique, satirical take on the classic tale of Scheherazade. Unlike traditional adaptations focusing on various stories from the 1001 nights, this film places Sheherazade herself at the center of the narrative and explores her journey to escape a lustful king's pursuit. The movie blends fantasy elements with humor as it weaves together ancient times and modern-day London through the Genie's time-traveling TV.
