In Paris, 1967, renowned filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard (Louis Garrel), already famous for 'A bout de souffle' and other films, begins to shift his focus from revolutionizing cinema to becoming a political revolutionary himself, as evidenced by his Maoist film 'La Chinoise'. He marries Anne Wiazemsky (Stacy Martin), a young actress and the granddaughter of writer François Mauriac. The May 1968 events in Paris put their marriage to the test, as Godard becomes increasingly involved in the revolution and less available to his wife. Despite his growing political commitment, Godard's jealousy surfaces, suggesting that even geniuses can lose their sense of humor.
'Le Redoutable' (2017) is a film directed by Michel Hazanavicius about Jean-Luc Godard, the renowned French filmmaker. Set in Paris during 1967 and 1968, the movie explores Godard's shifting focus from revolutionizing cinema to becoming politically engaged, particularly around the events of May 1968. His marriage to Anne Wiazemsky serves as a backdrop for these changes, testing their relationship amidst political turmoil.
