Synopsis

Scottish archaeologist Angus Flint discovers an odd skull while excavating the ruins of a convent. Shortly after, Lady Sylvia Marsh returns to Temple House, her family's nearby mansion. At a village party, Angus meets Lord James D'Ampton, who has just inherited his family's land beside Temple House. They discuss the legendary D'Ampton Worm, a huge dragon-snake killed by an ancestor of James. Days later, people start disappearing, and the skull is stolen from Angus's room. A missing person's watch is found in a cavern believed to be the worm's lair. Angus, James, and Mary Trent, a local woman who helps Angus, theorize that the creature survived but was trapped inside the cavern. The trio tries to stop Lady Marsh from freeing the beast, which they believe is connected to an ancient pagan cult worshipping it as a god.

Résumé

Lair of the White Worm (1988) is a British horror-comedy film directed by Ken Russell. Based on Bram Stoker's 'The Lair of the White Worm', the movie follows Scottish archaeologist Angus Flint who uncovers an unusual skull, triggering inexplicable events in a nearby village. The film combines elements of folk horror and vampire lore with a humorous tone, as Angus, Lord James D'Ampton, and Mary Trent investigate disappearances linked to the legendary D'Ampton Worm. Sources vary in detail but agree that the central plot involves the trio's attempts to stop Lady Sylvia Marsh from releasing the worm, believed to be connected to an ancient cult.
