Résumé
Based loosely on the 19th-century Russian novel 'Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk' by Nikolai Leskov, this British period drama directed by William Oldroyd provides a feminist reinterpretation of the classic story. Set in Victorian England, the film explores themes of female agency, rebellion against societal norms, and the consequences of defying expectations. With its stark rural setting, 'Lady Macbeth' offers a compelling exploration of a woman's desperate struggle for independence and desire.
