Synopsis
Bernardo 'I l Gandi' Mambelli, a Milanese worker and PCI militant, saves homosexual teenager Claudio from fascist attackers. Gandi, unaware of Claudio's sexual orientation, takes him home to recover. Upon learning about Claudio, Gandi tries to conceal their friendship but struggles with his discomfort around homosexuality. When fascists attack Claudio again, Gandi hosts him despite the risk of exposure. Maria, Gandi's girlfriend, discovers their secret and tells Walter, Gandi's colleague and best friend.

Résumé
'La patata bollente' (1979) is an Italian comedy-drama directed by Steno. Set in Milan, it follows the story of Bernardo 'I l Gandi' Mambelli, a paint factory worker and PCI militant who becomes entangled in the life of Claudio, a young homosexual man he saves from fascist attackers. The film explores themes of tolerance, friendship, and personal growth as Gandi navigates his own prejudices while trying to protect Claudio.
