Synopsis
An aging woman, Anna, travels alone to her son's villa in Sicily where he lives with his fiancée, Jeanne. Unbeknownst to Anna, their relationship has ended, and her son has not been living there for some time. When she arrives, Jeanne is still occupying the house but plans to leave soon. Over the course of several days, Anna stays at the villa waiting for her son's arrival while getting acquainted with Jeanne. Throughout this period, they form a peculiar bond as Anna continues to believe that her son will be joining them, despite Jeanne's hints that something has changed.

Résumé
L'attesa (The Wait) is an atmospheric Italian drama directed by Piero Messina in his feature debut. Set over the course of a few days in rural Sicily, the film centers on Anna, an elderly woman who travels to her son's villa expecting to meet him and his fiancée Jeanne for the first time. However, as Anna waits patiently for her son's arrival, she begins to sense that something is amiss with Jeanne's behavior and the situation at hand. The narrative explores themes of aging, familial bonds, and the passage of time through a subtle and evocative portrayal of two women navigating an uncertain and emotionally charged environment.
