Synopsis

Introducing Dorothy Dandridge chronicles the life and career of Dorothy Dandridge, a remarkable performer who overcame racial barriers to achieve extraordinary success in show business. Born into poverty, Dorothy honed her talents alongside her sister at various nightclubs before securing her big break as an actress in the film 'Stornella'. She later became the first black woman nominated for a Best Actress Academy Award for her role in 'Carmen Jones'. Throughout her meteoric rise to fame, Dorothy faced numerous challenges including racism and discrimination. She was not allowed to use white bathrooms or swim in hotel pools due to her race. Despite these obstacles, she persevered with the support of her faithful manager, played by Brent Spiner. The film also explores Dorothy's relationship with director Otto Preminger, which initially boosted her career but later led her to make questionable decisions.
