Synopsis
Set in a dystopian future, 'The Handmaid's Tale' follows June Osborne (renamed Offred), who lives under the totalitarian regime of Gilead, formerly part of the United States. In this religious autocracy, women are stripped of their rights and forced into specific roles based on their perceived fertility. June is assigned to be a Handmaid, a concubine tasked with bearing children for the ruling class. The story begins as June attempts to escape with her husband and child but is captured and sentenced to serve as a Handmaid. Throughout the series, Offred navigates the harsh realities of Gilead while secretly plotting rebellion against its oppressive system.

'The Handmaid's Tale' is an American web television series adapted from Margaret Atwood's dystopian novel of the same name. Set in a post-apocalyptic world where a religious extremist government, the Republic of Gilead, has taken control, the show explores themes of feminism, totalitarianism, and human resilience. The series is a stark commentary on contemporary societal issues such as women's rights, reproductive freedom, and religious fundamentalism. It follows Offred (Elisabeth Moss) as she struggles to survive and resist against this oppressive regime while trying to find her daughter who was taken from her during her capture.
