Synopsis
Lady Dona St. Columb, seeking refuge from her dull life at court with Sir Harry in London, escapes to her family estate on the Cornish coast. There she meets French privateer Jean Aubrey and becomes captivated by his adventurous lifestyle. Together with William, Lady Dona's enigmatic servant, they hatch a plan to steal a ship under the noses of English authorities. The theft angers the authorities who pursue Jean relentlessly. As the noose tightens around their affair, Lady Dona is torn between her duty as a wife and mother and her desire for freedom with Jean.
