Synopsis
In Nazi-occupied Utrecht during World War II, Kaiser Wilhelm II lives in seclusion at his countryside estate, making him a prime assassination target. Reluctant Wehrmacht Captain Stefan Brandt is assigned to protect the former monarch, but he soon becomes embroiled in a dangerous love affair with Mieke de Jong, the mansion's Dutch handmaiden. As Brandt investigates rumors of a spy among them, his relationship with Mieke threatens to jeopardize not only his mission but also both their lives. With the impending arrival of Reichsführer Heinrich Himmler, Brandt must navigate this volatile situation and protect both the Kaiser and Mieke.

Résumé
Exception (2016) is a historical drama directed by David Leveaux, set during World War II in Nazi-occupied Holland. Based on Christian Schröder's novel 'Die Ausnahme', the film follows Captain Stefan Brandt, tasked with protecting the former German emperor Kaiser Wilhelm II from assassination attempts. As Brandt investigates potential threats and becomes entangled in a forbidden love affair with Mieke de Jong, he discovers that nothing is as it seems. The film explores themes of trust, betrayal, and the dangers of deception during wartime.
