Synopsis
Excalibur (1981) begins with the birth of King Arthur Pendragon following Merlin's prophecy that he would become king. As a young boy, Arthur pulls the sword Excalibur from the stone, fulfilling the prophecy and proving his worthiness to rule. The film chronicles Arthur's rise to power, his battles against rebellious nobles, and the formation of the Knights of the Round Table.
The knights embark on a quest for the Holy Grail, but their journey is fraught with danger and temptation. Lancelot, one of Arthur's closest friends, becomes involved in an adulterous relationship with Guenevere, Arthur's queen, leading to strife within the kingdom. Ultimately, the betrayal leads to civil war among the knights, culminating in a tragic battle at Camelot where many of the Round Table are killed.
