Synopsis
Based on Luiz Ruffato's novel, 'Estive em Lisboa e Lembrei de Você' (2015) follows a narrative structure inspired by oral interviews, with the main character addressing the camera directly. The story explores themes of emigration, dreams, and disappointments through the experiences of Brazilians who move to Portugal. It was shot in Cataguases, Brazil, and Lisbon, Portugal, with both professional actors and non-actors drawn from communities with similar stories to those described in the book.

Résumé
'Estive em Lisboa e Lembrei de Você' is a Brazilian-Portuguese co-production directed by José Barahona, his first feature film after living in Brazil for several years. Initially conceived as a documentary based on Ruffato's novel, the project evolved into a narrative film with strong documentary elements. Barahona aimed to understand what drives Brazilians to emigrate to Portugal and chose to cast amateur actors and non-actors to incorporate their real-life experiences into the film. The story is told through a first-person perspective, echoing the 'false documentary' style of Ruffato's book.
