Synopsis
John, an unlucky-in-love bank clerk, decides to try his luck with a Russian mail-order bride named Nadia after finding her profile online. Initially, their relationship seems perfect despite the language barrier. However, when Nadia's 'cousins' suddenly arrive from Russia for her birthday, John finds himself drawn into their criminal activities. He realizes that he might have made a mistake in bringing Nadia into his life.

Résumé
Birthday Girl is a dark romantic comedy directed by Jez Butterworth in 2001. The film follows John, a mild-mannered bank clerk who decides to try internet love connections and mail-order brides after never having been lucky in the game of love. The story takes an unexpected turn when Nadia's 'cousins' arrive from Russia for her birthday, revealing that there might be more to his new bride than meets the eye.
