Synopsis
Séverine Serizy (Catherine Deneuve), a beautiful young woman married to Dr. Pierre Serizy, struggles with her masochistic fantasies that she cannot reconcile with her everyday life. She remains chaste in her marriage despite loving her husband dearly. Séverine's friend Henri tells her about Madame Anais' high-class brothel, and intrigued by the idea of a double life, Séverine begins working there during the days under the name Belle de jour. Her secret life excites her, but it also brings complications when one of her clients, Husson, becomes possessive of her. Meanwhile, Pierre grows suspicious of Séverine's odd behavior and distant attitude towards him. The story reaches a climax when Husson, enraged by Séverine's rejection, attacks Pierre, leading to Séverine revealing her secret life to her husband.
