Synopsis
In early-1930s Los Angeles' Bunker Hill neighborhood, Arturo Bandini (Colin Farrell), a young Italian immigrant aspiring to be a writer, arrives from Colorado with dreams of writing the great LA novel. Six months later, struggling financially, he meets Camilla Lopez (Salma Hayek), a beautiful Mexican waitress who serves him coffee. They begin a relationship, but Arturo's jealousy and fear lead him to behave cruelly towards Camilla. Arturo receives support and encouragement from H.L. Mencken (Richard Schickel), but his insecurities drive a wedge between him and Camilla.

Résumé
Ask the Dust (2006) is a period drama directed by Robert Towne, set against the backdrop of early-1930s Los Angeles' Bunker Hill neighborhood. The film follows Arturo Bandini, an aspiring writer from Colorado who arrives in LA with dreams of writing the great American novel but finds himself struggling financially and romantically.
