Synopsis
In late nineteenth-century Paris, British aristocrat Charles Swann moves within high society circles until he falls deeply in love with Odette de Crécy, a courtesan. Swann's obsession with Odette consumes him; he even pays for her services while allowing her to maintain her lifestyle. Despite knowing that marrying Odette would jeopardize his social standing, Swann is determined to be with her at any cost. Meanwhile, the wealthy Verdurin couple has their eyes on Odette for their protégé, de Forcheville.
