Synopsis
Friedrich Schiller, a regimental physician in a small German principality, harbors dreams of literary fame inspired by his idol Goethe. When the prince forbids him from pursuing his writing ambitions on the side, Schiller flees to the Palatine Electorate's capital, Mannheim. There, he falls in love with an actress and hopes to secure the position of court author after his first play garners acclaim. However, his artistic aspirations lead him to write a tragedy that fails, unlike the comedies of his dashing colleague and friendly rival, actor August Wilhelm Iffland. The outcome of Schiller's ambition may be decided by court intrigues.
