Synopsis
In the coastal town of Cork, Syracuse, a divorced fisherman who has recently stopped drinking, discovers a nearly drowned young woman named Ondine in his fishing net one day. Despite her mysterious nature and insistence on remaining unseen by others, Syracuse takes her in and provides her shelter in an isolated cottage that once belonged to his mother. His precocious daughter Annie immediately becomes fascinated by Ondine's enigmatic presence and believes she might be a selkie, a mythical seal-woman who loses her seal skin and turns human while on land. Throughout their time together, Syracuse finds himself drawn to Ondine's beauty and mystery, hoping that her arrival signals the beginning of better times. However, his fears about letting hope enter his life again are heightened by Annie's deteriorating health due to failing kidneys.
