Synopsis
Marieke, a 20-year-old woman living in Brussels with her distant mother Jeanne, works at a chocolate factory by day and seeks warmth and strength in the arms of much older men by night. This pattern is disrupted when Jacoby, an editor searching for Marieke's father's last manuscript, arrives. Jeanne becomes determined to keep them apart, fearing that Jacoby will reveal a long-buried secret about her husband's death. Marieke falls in love with Jacoby but struggles to accept the truth about her past, leading her to despair and causing her to withdraw from him.
