Synopsis

La femme invisible (d'après une histoire vraie) tells the story of Lili (Julie Depardieu), a young woman suffering from a rare condition that causes her to become completely invisible at random intervals, with no control over when it occurs. In search of help, she visits an institution led by Rose (Charlotte Rampling). The team there attempts to assist Lili in controlling her invisibility and reclaiming her life.

Throughout the film, the audience is kept unaware of Lili's invisibility status, paralleling her own confusion about when it will happen. This narrative choice leaves room for interpretation regarding whether Lili's condition is genuine or if she might be mentally unstable. The story also incorporates elements of fantasy and surrealism, with scenes featuring Lili's dead female ancestors appearing to her.

The climax involves a dream sequence where Lili stands up for all the women in her family through the last five generations.

Résumé

La femme invisible (d'après une histoire vraie), directed by Agathe Teyssier, is a comedy-drama that explores themes of identity, self-discovery, and mental health. The story follows Lili, a young woman grappling with a unique condition that causes her to become invisible at random intervals. Set in a realistic universe, the film employs a narrative technique where the audience is kept unaware of Lili's invisibility status, reflecting her own uncertainty about her condition.

The film features elements of surrealism and fantasy, with appearances from Lili's deceased female ancestors. It also explores feminist themes through the portrayal of women across generations.

While some viewers may find the film confusing or silly due to its unconventional narrative and surreal elements, others might appreciate its unique approach to storytelling and its exploration of complex themes.
