In 'Baryshnya-krestyanka', based on Pushkin's short story, Liza, a young girl from an aristocratic family, becomes infatuated with her neighbor, but their fathers' strained relationship prevents any direct interaction. In order to meet him, Liza devises a plan with her loyal servant Nastia: she disguises herself as a peasant girl and goes mushroom-picking in the nearby woods, hoping to encounter him there.
Directed by Aleksey Sakharov in 1995, 'Baryshnya-krestyanka' is a melodramatic romance that retells Pushkin's classic tale of youthful love and innocent deceit. The story explores themes of class distinction, familial tension, and the lengths one might go to for love. Despite its historical setting, the film's core narrative remains timeless.
